Lacey Dearie interviews author Ashton E. Silver

On The Couch With...
Welcome to the interview section of my blog. This time round, I've invited the next big thing in erotic fiction, Ashton E. Silver, to join me on my virtual sofa for an interview. If you like this interview, he can be found on Amazon or Twitter....

LD: Hi Ashton. Welcome to my blog. Take a seat and we'll get started *pats cushion next to me*

AS: Hmm this is cosy :-))

LD: Tell me, what made you decide to write about your adventures?

AS: I don't really know but I'd read an article about the 50 Shades trilogy and I was surprised to see just how many people were interested in reading about sex. All my life I've been in business but never anything to do with writing, so I thought I'd give it a go :-)

LD: Now, I devoured your book. I read it in one sitting. Liked the bondage and the threesome parts. Wasn't so keen on the anal or the...ahem, finale. Why so explicit? What makes you want to write erotica rather than straight emotionally charged love stories?

AS: You devoured my book in one sitting? Hmm I'm glad you enjoyed it :-) I think a lot of women would admit to enjoying certain parts of my book, but would find it very difficult to admit to liking it all..

LD: Not sure what you're getting at there, but carry on...

AS: It is rare to hear a woman truly divulge her true inner sexual fantasies, even with her long term partner. I believe, a woman in the right mood, with a man she "really wants" and after having several orgasms, could very easily be tempted into other sexual acts outside of her comfort zone. Why so explicit? Well there are so many "emotionally charged love stories." I wouldn't be interested in writing that. I wanted to see if I could portray a woman's feelings and sensations from a man's point of view, probably egotistic of me :-) But I like to explore a woman's "real" fantasies and try to bring then to reality.

LD: Aren't you just another 50 Shades ripoff? What makes YOU different from all the others?

AS: I must admit I think E.L. James has done a fantastic job of capturing the market and I believe a lot of people have opened up in admitting they like this trilogy and openly reviewing it. What makes me different? Like I said I have tried to portray a woman's feelings and sensations. Do you think I managed it?

LD: To be honest, I would have guessed a man wrote it. But it was refreshing to read that! Congrats on your latest chart position, by the way. Number 24, eh? Nice one! How did that feel?

AS: Thank you :-)) I smiled because the first time I realised "The Rose Ghost" had reached the top 100 it was at "69" and I thought it was an appropriate position for the book:-)

LD: Indeed! Would you like a drink, Ashton? *pours a hot chocolate for self*

AS: Thank you I haven't had a hot chocolate for a long time :-)

LD: Describe your ideal woman for us.

AS: My ideal woman... I like an honest, open minded, easy going woman, a woman that wants to enjoy life...

LD: Do you know who my ideal man is? Frank Skinner :D

AS: Oh great :-) I think he can be quite funny :-) as for your ideal man, everyone's tastes are different and I respect that.

LD: Take a look in the mirror and tell us what film star you look most like.

AS: :-)) I don't know who I look like...me :-))

LD: So, you're in the business of seducing ladies with nothing more than words. Let's see how good you are. Seduce me in 140 characters or less. On your marks, get set. Go!

AS: :-)) No, I write words from experiences and you are a married lady :-)) and a very beautiful one at that :-)

LD: Hmm. That's very gentlemanly of you, but compliments don't really do it for me. But then I'm notoriously fussy about men. I'm sure all my female readers are rushing on to Amazon right now though to buy your book. What is it you do when you're not dampening knickers? Do you have a day job?

AS: :-)) I'm a businessman, but if I tell you anymore, I would have to kill you :-))

LD: Ok, kinda creepy how you smiled after saying that LOL. Now, here's Lacey's random question. Would you rather be stuck in an elevator with a clown or a ventriloquist's dummy?

AS: A clown... Ventriloquists are very good conversationalists

LD: And what about your love life? Is there a special someone who inspires the female characters in your stories?

AS: Yes there is :-)

LD: *passes the biscuit tin* Would you like one?

AS: Yes please :-)

LD: What's your favourite biscuit?

AS: Custard or bourbon cream please

LD: Good choice! Mine's a Penguin. Why did you choose Paris for your first story? Was it based on a personal experience, or a fantasy?

AS: I love Paris, I've spent many years there, it is the city of "Love" :-)

LD: If you were a muppet, which one would you be?

AS: :-) you ask some funny questions, but I guess..the Frog :-))

LD: Good one. Kermit rules. And yes, I am rather random. I reckon I'd be the Swedish chef. Nobody can understand what I'm on about, but they laugh anyway! Which other erotic romance authors do you like reading?

AS: I'm afraid I don't read erotic books, except my own :-))

LD: Where do you call home?

AS: Well a lot of my life is spent in hotels on business trips, but if you read my next book, you will see where my "Heaven" is :-) The book will be out in 2 weeks.

LD: Any chance we'll see a story written by you set in Scotland?

AS: Scotland is a beautiful country and I have spent time here on business...I'm sure Scotland will be part of my adventure stories soon :-)

LD: I'll look forward to it ;) Thanks for taking the time to sit on my virtual couch Ashton. It's been a pleasure!

AS: Thank you Lacey you have been a fantastic host, I hope to be invited back some day...maybe to chat about the Scotland saga :-))
